Rough Fish - Time To Bag A Biggin!
Carp, Buffalo, Gar are all finished with the spawn
which means they are hungry and willing to take your baits! This along
with the pre-spawn is some of the best times to catch your PB (personal
best) fish.
Windy Fishing From The Bank
When it's windy, remember to position yourself so the
wind is blowing right at you. This can be a great time for bank anglers
to catch a lunker or limit out on some catfish or sandies. The wind will
move shad and other bait fish right into your fishing hole. Also a good
time to throw the net to catch some bait.
Chumming Tip
You can use corn, range pellets, ground up shad, etc,
etc. What's more important is one simple rule. Chum little but often.
Think of a group of pigeons which are being fed in a park. If you throw
the entire feed out, the birds will fill up, lose interest and leave.
But if you feed just a little bit every now and then, you can keep the
birds right in front of you for hours. ;)
Chum Small Bait Big For Bigger Fish
When fishing for large Carp, Buffalo make sure your
bait has a much larger footprint compared to your chum. It will stand
out more in the water and larger fish will key on the larger bounty of
food. If you're using corn for chum and hook bait for instance, place as
many kernels as possible on the hook, thread some up the line as well.
If you're using dough bait, chum with pea size balls and bait up with
near golf ball size dough balls.
Hot Day? Fish Late Night, Early Morning
When it's hot during the day, some of the best fishing
will be in the late evening and pre sun rise. If you want some serious
rough fish action, go out at midnight, chum up the water. The action
should be fairly consistent with a flurry of activity around the
4:00am-7:00am range.

TBF Bank Fishing Tournaments
Posted By: TBF 07/3/2008 8:44 am
TBF is going to organize some bank fishing tournaments in the DFW area in the coming months. We'd like there to be entry fees and money / prizes given out to the winners to help generate interest.
To make it fun, we could target different species at each tournament and also once in a while have a anything goes tournament. I'm a fan of k.i.s.s. (keep it simple stupid) so I would just like to have prizes for the total weight of fish caught (1st - 3rd places) and a seperate prize for the heaviest fish of the day. ?
We could have different tournaments for: Panfish - (Bluegill, Sunfish, Crappie, etc.) Largemouth Bass - Would be tough, but fun! Carp & Buffalo Gar - (Longnose, Spotted, Alligator) Catfish - (Channel, Blue, Flathead) Anything Goes! - (Over a pre-determined length, weight)
Since we don't want stringers of fish or holding nets, we would need a couple of judges at each event to verify the catch, weight and release of each fish and to also record the data of the catch.
I'm doing external research on the legal aspects of money being involved, but if anyone else has any experience with this, please chime in with your thoughts. I want to advertise the tournaments so being legal is 100% a requirement.
